Friday the 13th

Did you know that Friday the 13th is my lucky day? It all started back in elementary school. I was either in first or second grade on this particular Friday the 13th. On Fridays, during recess, the school sold ice pops for 50 cents. I went out to recess that day, knowing that I would not be able to get an ice pop. That didn’t particularly bother me, but I kind of had a hankering for one. Must have been a rough morning. I distinctly remember accepting my fate and putting my hands in my pocket about 30 yards past the ice pop table. Lo and behold! Not one, but two quarters in my left pocket! I could afford an ice pop! I didn’t immediately attach my luck to a date. But again, on another, not so particular Friday the 13th, I reached into my pocket and discovered a dollar of which I was unaware. It was decided. Friday the 13th was to be my lucky day. However, we can’t ignore the fact that I often actively strive to go against the norms. That was a huge factor in my declaration of a luck filled date. I wasn’t going to let societal norms tell me what kind of luck I was to have! What a child rebel I was. Hrumph!
